The Anti-pitch, obsession, and top Naval tweets

The Z Fellows Newsletter - March 25th, 2024

Welcome back to the Z Fellows newsletter! Every Monday we share 3 ideas - to help you build companies, ship products, and create your life's work.

1: The Anti-Pitch

How to structure a pitch deck. Five steps:

  1. Status quo β€” why it sucks (context)

  2. Identify the problem (new technology)

  3. Show what’s changed about the world (timeliness)

  4. Show why you’re the right person to fix the problem (credibility)

  5. What you can do now (call to action)

This was a great read. Highly recommend πŸ‘‡

2: Follow Obsession

"Everyone knows that to do great work you need both natural ability and determination. But there's a third ingredient that's not as well understood: an obsessive interest in a particular topic."

"When you're obsessively interested in something, you don't need as much determination: you don't need to push yourself as hard when curiosity is pulling you."

"Darwin couldn't turn it off. Neither could Ramanujan. They didn't discover the hidden paths that they did because they seemed promising, but because they couldn't help it. That's what allowed them to follow paths that someone who was merely ambitious would have ignored." β€” Paul Graham

"The thing you do obsessively between age 13 and 18, that's the thing you have the most chance of being world-class at."

Bill Gates
